The Girl Who Played With Fire![]() The Girl Who Played With Fire is the second film in the Millennium trilogy, a series based on the best selling Swedish author Stieg Larsson’s trilogy of books. Carrying on from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the film concerns itself with Michael Blomkvist and his magazine Millennium. Millennium are about to uncover a sex-ring trade and computer hacker / wild-child genius Lisbeth Salander becomes embroiled in a conspiracy that Blomkvist feels responsible for solving. While the book focuses equally on the sex-ring and Salander, the film basically establishes the sex-ring thread in the first 20 minutes and then ignores it and focuses purely on the Salander saga. The Girl Who Played With Fire is nowhere near on par with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, possibly due to the extensive content cut out from the book, but it also fails to be as cinematically fulfilling. It lacks the intensity and visual style of the first film, and simply drags on until the semi-fulfilling end. I did have a lot of expectations for this film as The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo blew me away, but having read the books I found the books got better. Here’s hoping the next and final installment The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest is a return to form. The Girl Who Played With Fire is above and beyond your typical thriller but is ultimately less engaging and interesting than the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Recommended for fans of the books and of the first film, if you haven't read the books then buy them and add The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo to your wishlist. Recommended Reading / Viewing |
